About the NavePoint VP-3U

A 3U vented panel covers a substantial open area in your rack while still allowing passive air circulation. It is useful when your rack has significant unused space that you want to keep clean and organized while maintaining good thermal management. The larger vented area provides more airflow than multiple smaller panels stacked together.

Empty rack space is never really empty — it's either managed or it isn't. A 3U vented blank panel like NavePoint's VP-3U exists to close off gaps in your rack without trapping heat the way a solid blank would. When you've got a meaningful chunk of unused real estate between a power conditioner and a wireless receiver, leaving it open invites dust, cable migration, and the kind of air-bypass that makes your amp rack run hotter than it should. This panel covers the gap cleanly while still letting passive airflow move through the louvered face.

At 5mm deep and 0.7kg, this thing contributes almost nothing to your rack's weight or depth budget, which matters when you're already maxed out on a 14-space shockmount. The zero power draw is obvious but worth noting in a rig where you're counting watts carefully — it's pure infrastructure. The 3U format is genuinely useful here: a single panel closes what would otherwise require stacking three 1U blanks, which means fewer pieces rattling loose in a road case over a tour run. Passive ventilation won't replace active cooling for a dense amp rack, but it keeps bypass air from short-circuiting around heat-generating gear.

This panel belongs in any rack that has a stable, known layout — you've specced your gear, you know what's going where, and you want the open slots handled properly before the rack goes into a road case. It's not for a rig in constant flux where you're swapping gear week to week; you'll just be pulling it in and out constantly. If your gap is 1U or 2U, size your panel to match rather than forcing a 3U where it doesn't fit. And if your rack is genuinely thermal-critical — a powered IEM rig with a high-density wireless stack and an amp — consider whether active ventilation is the right answer instead of passive panels alone.

In the rack

  • Use this to cover the gap immediately above or below heat-generating gear like PSUs or amplifiers — solid blanks in those positions trap heat, and open bays let cold air bypass the equipment that needs it most.
  • Before you mount it, route any loose cable runs behind it. The 5mm depth still leaves clearance against a standard rack's rear rail, so it can act as a clean cable-management cover for that section of the rack.
  • If your layout has a 3U gap mid-rack, lock this panel in with all four rack screws — a loose blank panel rattles in transit and can shift enough in a shockmount to snag adjacent gear on load-out.
