The AVIO USB is the smallest, cheapest on-ramp to a Dante network you can buy — a palm-size dongle that bridges any USB-A computer output to two channels in and two channels out on your Dante fabric. In a working IEM or playback rig, that job matters more than its size suggests: getting a guest laptop, a broadcast feed, or a talkback computer onto the network without touching your console's card slots or interrupting anything else already running. How it works in the path

Class-compliant USB audio means no driver install, which is the only thing that matters at noon on show day when a guest engineer hands you a MacBook. The device draws at most 3 watts and is bus-powered from the network side, so it won't add meaningfully to your power budget or require its own outlet. Two channels each direction is the real constraint — this is a point solution, not a multi-source hub. Latency is consistent with the rest of your Dante network, so it integrates cleanly with whatever clock domain you're already running, provided your switch is managed and PTP is happy.

Pick this if you have a Dante network already built and need a low-cost, low-friction way to drop one computer onto it — talkback client, click-track playback laptop, virtual soundcheck rig, or a fly-date scenario where you want to avoid packing a full interface. Don't pick it if you don't already have Dante infrastructure; the dongle alone does nothing without a Dante network to connect to. And if you need more than two channels from that source, look at the AVIO Analog 4x4 or a full Dante PCMCIA or USB interface instead — this box is deliberately narrow in scope.

Details worth deciding before load-in.

  • Velcro it directly to the back of the rack rail or to the Ethernet switch housing — it has no rack footprint, and a loose dongle hanging on a cable is a pulled port waiting to happen.
  • Label the Ethernet port with the device name in Dante Controller before doors; a mystery endpoint showing up mid-show is harder to troubleshoot than one you've already named and patched.
  • Use a short, right-angle USB-A cable if the host computer's port is on the side or rear — it reduces lever stress on the port and keeps the dongle from flopping.
  • If you're using this for a guest laptop feed, pre-patch the Dante receive channels in your template session so the only step at load-in is plugging in the USB — no Controller work under pressure.
